Phantom Skies and Shifting Ground: Landscape, Culture, and Rephotography in Eadweard Muybridge's Illustrations of Central America

Finding & Rephotographing Muybridge

During the course of this project, the authors located 169 of 264 original Muybridge Central American views and rephotographed 117. The twelve images that follow were selected primarily to demonstrate the breadth of Muybridge's travels and the typical content of his photographs. Three images presented here are not included in the print book. Additional images may be added in the future. If you require a complete listing of all the images produced for this project, please contact Byron Wolfe directly.

If this is the first time you've viewed these combined images, the authors recommend that you first review the "Reading Muybridge" chapter on this site to better understand the visual language and interpretive methodology.
